When you rely on a constant flow of website traffic to grow your business online, it’s essential to have traffic coming in from a variety of sources, because more traffic to your website means more potential clients, right?
Getting people to actually visit your website is an important part of your marketing strategy that you must dedicate time to each week and you must have a solid plan to be successful.
But let’s get one thing clear, it’s not just about generating huge volumes of traffic. It’s about getting the RIGHT traffic to your website – your ideal customer. There’s no point in trying to attract people to your website who are not likely to work with you – it’s a waste of time and energy and it’s not going to boost your profits!
Focus your marketing efforts on attracting the people who really NEED your products and services. Your website content must be compelling to your ideal clients and include appropriate calls to action so you can generate more leads, more sales and more profit.
Here are my 5 quick tips to increase traffic to your website.
1. Define your target customer
Who is your target customer and what do they need from you? What problems do they have that your products and services will solve? When you get this right, you can create and share content that is of value to your target client and they’ll naturally be attracted to your website. Create a profile of your ideal client. Are they a man or a woman? How old are they? What do they do for work? Are they married? Do they have children? What are their likes and dislikes? What’s their lifestyle like? What problems do they have that you help to solve? Give your ideal client a name and an identity so you can create a powerful brand message with them in mind.
2. Create and publish great content
Content marketing is fast becoming the ultimate tool in online client attraction. Creating awareness of your products through traditional advertising is not enough anymore. The marketing rules have changed. We’re now using smart phones to access the internet and connect with people than ever before. We’re reading blogs, watching videos, listening to music and podcasts all with our phones. Smart content marketing allows you to reach your ideal clients where they are hanging out online. Through articles, eBooks, videos, emails and podcasts, you can position yourself as the expert in your field because you provide more than just a product or service, you provide unique value – your knowledge, experience and expertise. Sharing content regularly helps to boost your search engine page rankings too – Google loves content!
3. Optimise your website
To have your website found and ranked highly by the search engines, you need to have effective on page and off page SEO practices in place. On page optimisation describes the things that can be done within a webpage to increase the chances of being found by the search engines. That includes things like: using keyword rich content, using headings, title tags and description tags and using internal links. Off page SEO is what can be done outside of the web pages to maximise search engine performance including: external links from other high ranking sites, directory listings, affiliate programs, social media marketing and content marketing. These activities must be top priorities that you allocate time for each week.
4. Be active on social media
Social networking is a great way to reach your target customer in the places they hang out online. Social networking is based on building a community around your business. Start exploring, have some fun and build relationships with people who are likely to be interested in what you have to say, and who are likely to share information about you within their own communities.
5. Connect with influential bloggers
When you write a newsworthy article or blog post let other bloggers in your field know about it. You may be surprised at how many link back to your post. Allow other bloggers to to guest post on your site – they’ll most likely share the post with their own audience, driving traffic to your site. Offer to do the same in return.
